Well it's been another week in the doghouse. Just the normal craziness here this week. Sports seemed to dominate as it usually does this time of year. Both Abate and Fantu ran at the cross country meet in Hamilton on Wednesday. It was hot, and the course was hilly. Abate placed 4th. Fantu started strong but struggled on the hills and finished well into the pack. Abate's football game was on Thursday in China Spring (north of Waco). He played for almost the entire game, maybe was on the sideline for 4 plays. Gatesville won 24-0. Yippee! They looked really good. His level of fitness amazes me. His teammates after the game were sweaty and out of breath - he looked like he had just suited up to start the game. They were all just staring at him in awe.
Today (Saturday) Caleb had his soccer game. They have really improved in just a week. They were missing a number of players - only 5 showed up. The other team had 10 so they sat out a bunch and alternated. Then one of Caleb's teammates had to leave the game so they continued with just 4 players. Caleb's team scored 5 goals! They won 4-1, yes they scored the opposing goal too!
The job interview I thought I had for Thursday was canceled. The position had been filled but someone forgot to tell the head office. I was quite disappointed, but nothing I could do about it. I continue to fill out job applications. I've realized I will have to broaden my options to possibly working full-time as there aren't too many part time positions available. I hate to give up my Wednesdays with Caleb, as this is our last year before he starts school full time, but I really need to be working. I'm hoping that maybe something will come up here in town. At least then I shouldn't miss too many of the kids school events.
Alan had a bit of excitement this week. The trailer he was pulling on his return from Colorado had new brakes that had been incorrectly installed. They locked up, over-heated and caught fire. He quickly noticed and grabbed the fire extinguisher. Another truck driver stopped - they put out the fire before any major damage was done. The load of Coors beer was saved and Alan was fine!
Well it was just a normal week here. Don't sweat the little stuff - and it's all little stuff.
