Fantu's saw the doctor this morning. He said it was highly unlikely the mole would be cancerous at this early stage and at her young age, so he froze it off. We will keep an eye on it in the coming weeks and if that didn't work she will have to have it cut out. She was a brave girl - didn't cry, just fidgeted a bit. She went on back to school and I headed on to work.
One less hole to plug.

There's a hole in my bucket...
A song from the 1950's - Burl Ives. There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza, dear Liza. There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza a hole. What do you do when you think you are filling something up - and instead it all just leaks out?
I'm feeling lately like I've a empty bucket. Filling it up, it starts to fill full then suddenly it's much lighter...drained.... all that work yet nothing to show for it.
It's been a difficult week. Worried about Fantu- glad the doctor is tomorrow morning. Hopefully the news won't be bad. I'm worried though that tomorrows visit will only be the first of more to come. Tomorrow will also be the demise of one of our taller trees in our backyard. It stands tall and majestic in the center of the yard - except last week we had 70 mph winds and it caused the tree to begin to split right down the center of the trunk. First a few feet, then 6 feet, now over 8 feet. If we get one big gust of wind I'm afraid it will continue to split and fall. It would not be a pretty sight if it falls as there is something in every direction. So tomorrow the tree trimmers come and take it down. A hole in the yard.
As if that's not enough, tomorrow I have to take my car in and get the tires replaced. I just did this 14 months ago.- 24k miles and 2 of the tires are bald. I complained loudly enough that I will get about 50% off the new set but still it's a hole in my pocket.
I've also been missing Trevor lately. Nearly 10 years since I spent time with him, laughed with him. hugged him.... A hole in my heart.
So dear Liza how do you suggest we mend the holes?

What's that thumping in my throat?
Another busy week here in the doghouse. Athletics season has taken a break, so our early morning starts aren't quite as early. TAKS test continue next week for both kids. We all know my feelings about that (see earlier post). Abate's most difficult one - Science is one of two he has to take, Fantu has Math which I think will be hers.
The kids and I have a 3 day weekend. I'm hoping to find some time to relax. Will I be that lucky?
Oh that would be nice to have a free afternoon, no cooking, cleaning, shopping, or garden work... can I only imagine?
Today after work I went to the Temple City Council Meeting, all Administrative Assistants that work for the city were invited to attend. We each received a beautiful long stemmed pink rose. The Mayor issued a proclamation declaring all of next week Administrative Assistants Week next week. While everyone else gets just a Admin's Day - we in the City of Temple get a whole week! Somehow though I don't think I'll notice a difference. It was nice though that my employer took notice - I think my last employer did something one year out of the seven I worked for him.
Anyone that knows me well, knows that I am a terrible sleeper. I don't even have to have something to stress over and I still will lay awake for hours. I do take something now which helps, but the sleepless nights still occasionally occur. Something tells me I am going to have a few sleepless nights ahead. Fantu called me into her room last night and told me she had a mole that was getting larger and was bothering her. I had her step into the light so I could see it better. It has become much larger, irregularly shaped, raised and a few color changes. My heart lept up into my throat. I knew what this probably meant. ABCDE (google it) This mole meets all but one of the criteria. I called the Doctor this morning - the earliest opening was next Wednesday morning - damn it she has TAKS test and cannot miss. Thursday morning then... Ok.... A week... Heart in my throat for a week - I've been through worse. I just hope this just turns out not to be as stressful as those were. Prayers for Fantu please.

Jekyl and Hyde
Teenagers- Mood swings, crazy emotions, insecurities, overconfidence, it is a time of extremes. What child will I get today? Maybe even just this hour, possibly this minute?
Once upon a time Abate was my sweet cuddly boy, always cuddled up to me when watching TV, hanging out on the bed chatting. Big hugs before bed. Fantu was the moody one, she'd withdraw from contact. Hide under her blanket at bedtime so as not to get a hug and kiss. Then it changed. It was as if someone had waved a wand and poof they swapped! Fantu became my sweet loving girl. Helping out, sitting and talking. Giving big hugs. Abate meanwhile became.. well... cranky, rude, and challenging. He became a 14 year old boy. Luckily I've had experience with 14 year old boys and I knew that this would pass. I would try not to read too much into his moods - I could not take anything personally even though some days it was hard (we are just now approaching the 2 year mark as a family, so there are still some insecurities). I just had keep firm with the rules, and he has to show me that I can trust him. He is really trying to exert some independence these past few months. He was also getting quite mean to Fantu. He'd pick on her and constantly be criticizing her and putting her down. It was a constant battle with him trying to get him to stop. Some times he'd have her in tears before I could stop him. I then of course had to reassure her that she beautiful, she is not fat, she can run, and she is smart.
Do you have any idea how hard this is to do? Cheer up a crying pre-teen? Fantu usually just says -"Mom you're supposed to say these things, you're a mom." I could tell her all day how beautiful she is and she will not believe it, but just one friend, teacher, anyone other than me tells her she is beautiful - she just glows and says Thank-you.
So anyway I think I kind of rambled off my point here about Jekyl and Hyde teens. I was starting to feel like Abate was destined to be Mr Hyde forever when last night out of the blue my cuddly boy made an appearance. I was in my room sitting in bed watching telly when he came in and laid across the bed. It wasn't long until he had his head in my lap and we were chatting away. He'd give me a hard time about my "jello" calves - hey I was relaxed! He got to calling me "Jello Mama". We didn't talk about anything serious, just about stuff that's going on. I hated it when bedtime rolled around and the evening had to end. But as I tucked him into bed I got a massive long hug and a kiss on the cheek.
So Dr. Jekyl where has your friend Mr. Hyde gone to? I'm sure he's there lurking somewhere just around the corner.

District Meet 2400m April 6,2011
Well this video probably says it all. 2400m District Champion. He won by 250m and while only wearing one shoe for half the race. Everyone was so amazed by his achievement. Look at that form! I have really been bragging to everyone about him. Proud mama - you bet! I hate to see the end of track season. 5 months until Cross Country running starts up. It will be a bit tougher in the 9th grade as he will be running 3 miles instead of the 2 he ran these past two years. Training starts in August, but I will probably have him running throughout the summer. I hope to have some photos and video of the 1600m race to out up in the next day or so. I also want to get a picture taken of him with all his medals. he'll double his weight if he wears them all at once! How do the parents of Olympians hold all that pride in - I think I would explode!
