Mom, I'm Boring....

Abate you're not boring - you are bored.
I can only wish that I was. Just as we were get settled into out Autumn routine everything changes. Life just can't be predictable and boring.
Last Monday (the day Darby died) I walked out on my job. I returned on Tuesday to pack everything up and bid adieu to the job I held for the past 7 years. It was sudden, it was impulsive, and maybe to some a bit foolish. But I feel it was justified. I was the target of a very cruel practical joke. How my co-workers and boss could even think that this would even be remotely funny, well I just don't understand.
Over the years the occasional practical joke has been played. I was involved in just a few, Turning the bosses desk around backwards while he was away on vacation. Another year reversing the items on his bookcase. Sometimes simple things like putting sunglasses on a statue. These are things that I would consider harmless. The guys in the office sometimes would tell each other things to try to fool the other, these I just tried to stay out of.
Last Friday 24th Sept. I received a call from my boss. He told me that the office had been broken into the evening before. He and his wife went there when the alarm company called. He said a number of things had been taken and many of the things burned in a BBQ grill that was on the premises. He went on to say that they took a lot of the pictures that were in the offices and some food and also the computer monitor in my office ( not the tower or keyboard). He then knowingly asked “You did have quite a few pictures in your office?” He went on to say he thinks they took quite a few of them. I asked then if they took the large portrait of Caleb? I said I didn’t think I could replace it. He said “ yes they took it. “ I was crushed. I had a number of family portraits in the office and was worried and heartbroken that they were gone. I offered to come in that afternoon or the next to help sort through things but he said they had it all under control not to worry about coming in.
I spent the weekend looking for copies of the pictures that I’d had in there or trying to locate the information on how I could get replacements. I was often in tears. I’d never even have suspected that they were playing a joke on me. Alan even phoned them on Sat. and offered to come in and help clean up if they needed. They said no, they had it all done. It was a sad and distressing weekend.
On Monday I headed into the office as usual. As I entered I noticed that in the reception area all looked in place with nothing missing. As I headed into my office my boss shouted out to me; “ It was all Cater’s idea!” At that moment I saw in my office that everything was in it’s place. Picture’s, computer , nothing had been touched. I was shocked and extremely angered but mostly hurt by what they had done. I immediately yelled and told them I couldn’t believe what they had done. I told them how distressed I had been over the weekend. I felt like I would explode I was so overwhelmed. I walked back into my office picked up the items I had walked in with and left in tears. I drove home and only returned on Tuesday to clear my office. Alan accompanied me. My boss was not there when we arrived but he did come in before we left. He was in the building over 5 minutes before stepping in to talk to me. He said he was shocked that I was leaving. I replied I don’t know why he should be shocked, what else should he expect from such a cruel prank. I told him how upset I was, and how I had pointedly asked if that portrait of Caleb had been taken as it was irreplaceable and he had said yes. They had crossed the line, I could'nt imagine how they had ever thought that would be a funny joke. He then with very little remorse said he was sorry I felt that way.
I have spent the past week filling out what seems to be dozens of applications. I have my first interview on Thursday. I am trying to be optimistic that I will get something quickly. It is not a good time to be unemployed.
Besides, I am bored sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring.
