Baby Washers

It is often perplexing to try to imagine how Fantu and Abate hear and interpret English. Fantu is quite entertaining with some of the things she says. Take for example this conversation from just over a week ago...
Fantu: Mom, whats a Baby Washer?
Me: Sorry, a what?
Fantu: A Baby Washer, you know that thing Carrie was going to today.
Me: Oh that - A baby shower.
Fantu: Yeah, what is it?

Well I'm struggling to keep a straight face, I'm just imagining an old-timey washing machine with a baby being washed. But I can see where she confused the words. Fantu mostly refers to taking a shower with washing her body - Shower/ Wash. Close enough!
So a few days later Abate did a similar thing.

Abate: Mom I got in trouble at lunch for calling a kid a white bag.
Me: White bag, what is that?
Abate: You know, white bag?
Me: Hhhmmm no, this is a new term for me.
Abate: No maybe not bag, but something...
So I'm thinking, bag/purse? Bag/sack? Ahhh BAG/ TRASH
Me: You called him White trash?
Abate: I think, what is white trash?

If you are wondering I did discuss the inappropriateness of calling someone white trash after I explained the term to him.

So in other news Abate had his second track meet last Thursday. He placed 1st in the 2400m winning by a full lap over the 2nd place finisher. In the 1600m he fell but only recovered enough to finish in 6th. His next meet is on the 25th. He was really disappointed with the 1600m result as his goal was to medal in both races in all 5 meets.
Spring is starting to make an appearance here. My Bradford Pear tree is starting to bloom and it is to be in the 70's today! I really need to get my garden cleaned up and ready to plant. The weather is looking promising for the weekend so hopefully I can get the kids outside to help. I'll probably just plant loads of tomatoes and peppers as they are what we use the most. Mmmmm I can almost taste them now.
