I know I have been absent from here for a very long time. I just haven't had it in me to write about all the insanity that life in the doghouse has been these past few months.
Let's take for example the past seven days...
On Wednesday morning Abate and two of his friends left to go to South Padre Island for Spring break. It is a 350 mile, 7 hour drive. I was against them going but with Dad on their side off they went. I was a nervous wreck but luckily Abate understood and called or texted hourly on the drive down. During the middle of this Fantu breaks down and informs via a text message that she wrecked her friends brother's car while driving it to Waco the evening before. Well she tried to tell me one story about how it happened - but Fantu cannot lie. Her story soon collapsed, the truth came out and she ended up making a bad situation even worse for herself, grounded until the end of time. Okay not quite, but 4-6 weeks at least. By the end of that day my head was pounding and I had the worst ringing in my right ear I was ready to shoot my ear off (yes I realize I most likely would have killed myself). I was really worried about it by the time I got home so I looked it up online and there in the list of possible causes STRESS. Yep, that about summed it up.
Thursday wasn't as bad. The boys decided to head back home that afternoon, it was too chilly to be on the beach, they had experienced a crazy college party and had a good idea now of what it is all about. They are really looking forward to college now! There were a few phone calls regarding Fantu's accident and of course there was the usual madness at work.
Since it was Spring break there weren't any soccer games or track meets scheduled which was nice so Friday was fairly normal.I did have to help Elmer with his ACT registration at the last minute (even though I had been nagging him for weeks to get it done). We also heard from one of the colleges Abate applied to and he was accepted. That's a bit of a relief even though it is a pricey DIII private school. Saturday had us celebrating St. Patrick's Day with friends a few days early and ended with me running to Waco with Abate to go Tuxedo shopping for the Prom. Oh yes, Senior Prom is just around the corner along with all the preparations for the big night. I'm just glad I don't have a daughter going this year too.
Sunday I try to keep lazy, a bit of housework and laundry to be done and some finishing touches on a bathroom update. Abate keeps asking if I have seen his phone charger - sorry no I haven't.
Monday The kids return to school, yippee! I also get good news that Fantu doesn't have to go to teen court, we just had to fax in her proof of insurance and her ticket was dismissed. Abate is still looking for his phone charger.
Tuesday, Abate found his phone charger (in his car). I remind him to get all his soccer gear together before I leave for work, he swears he will have time after school to get it all together. Work is crazy, but isn't it on most days? I get a call from Abate around 4:00 pm. Mom, where are my soccer socks? I don't know, they are your socks. But you do the wash. Yes I wash what is in the laundry room, or dirty clothes hamper, I fold it and put it in your pile for you to put away. Whatever happens to it before or after that, I take no responsibility for. A few minutes pass, I receive another phone call from Abate. Mom I can't find my wallet, can you check the bank online and see where I used it last. I check, I tell him, not much help as it was Sunday at the McDonalds drive-thru. Keep looking kid.
After work I drive straight to Waco to the soccer games (notice the plural). I get there and Fantu's game has already started. Score is 0-0 and she is chilling on the bench so I know I didn't miss much. The game continues deep into the second half before Gatesville score 2 goals within a minute and win the game. Fantu never got to step onto the field. I hate her coaches. She will play her favorites until they drop dead from exhaustion and will still hesitate to put in a substitute. Fantu is a good player and even more so a great team player. The coach just doesn't really seem to like her. In fact there was an incident before the game (which I found out about much later) that while the soccer team was warming up the girls track team from La Vega were finishing their practices. There were some stares back and forth, and a few words and then one of the girls said something directly to Fantu calling her a N*****. The coach was aware or made aware of it and pretty much just told Fantu to get over it. Excuse me? Get over it? Fantu was furious. I was furious. I asked Fantu if she wanted me to report the incident, but she didn't. This once I will do what she wishes. I'm not happy, but It was her choice.
So back to soccer... Girls won 2-0 then the boys played. Gatesville in first place playing La Vega in second place. It was a battle, it was hard fought battle, mistakes were made. Our boys lost 2-1. The undefeated District season wasn't to be.
So here we are now back to Wednesday. I received a delivery of red roses from my husband (for no apparent reason). Isn't he the best? I received a text from Abate that he wasn't feeling well and the kids at school were giving him a hard time about the loss the night before so he wanted to go home. I had a half a dozen calls from the insurance company ending with the good news that we won't be liable for any claims. I also remembered how therapeutic it is to blog when life gets to be a bit overwhelming. So you can see why with everything going on, I don't have time to write, but yet I can also see that maybe that is just what I should be doing.
