It's about living wise not beautiful

We live in a small house, it's not quite so small as to be called a tiny house but it is very cozy. In it's small 900 square feet it features 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, Living, Kitchen, Dining and a laundry room. So as you can imagine the rooms are all small and there is a total lack of storage, and you can add to that like so many 1950's homes it is a completely dysfunctional living space.
We have lived here for 9 years. Our family has grown quite a bit during that time. We had to rethink how we use our space and design it for how we live.
We started with our bedroom. It is only nine feet wide, it was eleven feet long excluding the closets. They were dark, cramped and poorly designed. The placement of the doors was awkward and made furniture choices and placement in the room difficult.  So we knocked them out and opened that space up. We hit the nearest IKEA and purchased a new closet system, a wardrobe cabinet, new storage bed and shelving.
What we have now is a wide open clothes storage and dressing area with a cozy sleeping nook tucked behind. we have so much storage that many of the bins and drawers are empty.  We have a private quiet sleeping area with a small tv hanging on the back side of the wardrobe. The bulky noisy ceiling fan was replaced with functional track lighting that lights up our entire dressing area. A new wall mounted fan keeps us cool on those warm muggy nights that are so common in this part of Texas (even in the dead of winter).
This is not a bedroom that would be featured in any design magazines, it is not beautiful. It is practical, it solved many of the problems and issues we had before. You walk into the bedroom and you are basically entering the closet.  I love it. For us it is perfect.

Carol, I love what you have done! More storage space is always a problem in these old houses. Wishing for a walk-in closet for myself. :)
