This has been a strange week. The kids
first week of summer vacation and I haven't had a decent nights sleep
all week. Fantu has already managed to get her days and nights mixed
up and Abate pushes the curfew limits. We had one night with a total
of 7 teens sleeping over and staying up nearly the whole night
talking. The girls were going to camp out in the garden but a
thunderstorm moved in around midnight so they all ended up in the
house. Fantu has been struggling with headaches all week and has
awakened me needing attention. Abate will send me text messages in
the middle of the night so I will see them when I wake up. I'm a
light sleeper so I wake up whenever the phone beeps. I did however
get a sweet text from Fantu the other night at 12:03 am, “ Mom i'm
so sorry abut everthing and thank u for evething I love u for that
love fantu ik ur a slep so txt me tomorrow.” I don't know what she
was apologizing for. I think she was worried that she'd upset me
earlier because I was so tired and went to bed early. On this same
night I had barely fallen asleep when I was awakened by a text from
the XC coach that he would be holding practice at 6:30 am. Oh, 6:30
practice the morning after Abate is out playing his first soccer game
in the summer league, followed by a bit of partying before getting
home at midnight. Not going to happen. This was only the beginning of
a long sleepless night. It was at 12:00 am I got the sweet text from
Fantu, but it just continued on all night.
2:00 am, Fantu calls me on the
phone.... “Mom? There's a mouse in my room help?” I get up and go
to her room It has gone into her closet, To give her a bit of comfort
I stuff a towel under the door so she will think he is trapped in
there for the night.
2:10 am She calls again the mouse was
back out and took off under her door and down the hall. Well he's out
of your room now and I don't see him, we'll get traps later and catch
him. She looks at me with a smile and confesses that before she
called me the first time she dialed 911, but before it connected she
realized that probably wasn't the right people to call. I go to bed
scratching my head.
911 whats your emergency? There is a
mouse in my room. Oh I can't imagine if it'd been the police waking
me up knocking on the door inquiring about the outlaw mouse in
Fantu's room. What a story that would have been!
4:00 am Woof , Schindler is in the
house and lets a massive bark that only a hound can do. I raise up
startled, tell him to keep quiet as he heads out the doggie door. He
rarely ever barks at night, when he does I tend to pay attention. On
this night I just buried myself under the duvet.
5:30 am, Fantu texts me again, not
going to xc practice. Ok that much I'd counted on, I don't think
she'd slept all night.
6:05 am, Alarm – The William Tell
Overture, oh no please don't tell me it's time to get up and go to
work. I need sleep. It won't happen on this day, the first of three
conventions begins this morning. I don't even get my things put down
before problems and demands start piling up.
The nights haven't improved since. Still the interruptions, still dragging myself to work half asleep. They just haven't been as funny. Fantu continues to feel ill and not sleep at nights. She sleeps all day instead. Her diet is screwed up along with her sleep patterns. I've got to get her better and back on schedule before she has my scheduled just as screwed up as hers. I really need everyone for one night to be as quiet as that mouse.

Oh my... I confess to laughing out loud reading this, largely because my reaction to rodents is similar to Fantu's. I had a furry invader once, and honestly my first thought was to ring someone, anyone for help! (And I did have a cat, a very laid back, live and let live kind of cat.)
I hope everything settles down soon!
